Growing up, I never owned a pair of jeans. I had a Singer.
When I was 8 years old, I made doll clothes made from scraps of fabric. By 6th grade, I made my own clothes and formal gowns from fabric bolts. My girls wore my smocked dresses for as long as they would let me make them. Sewing became a gift I could share with others.
